My name is Anna, and I am spending the Spring 2014 semester studying in Manchester. One of my favorite teachers suggested that I start a blog to document my experiences abroad, so that is what I'm going to do.
I've been in Manchester for three days now, and I still have no answer to the one question that really bugs me. Am I supposed to call it the loo? Everyone who lives here calls it the loo. Am I supposed to use that term to show that I am trying to absorb their way of doing things? Someone in the study abroad office at my university in the States once mentioned that I should probably try to spell things the way the British do when I write papers for class. It seems respectful to do so. Does the same principle apply to the loo? I don't want to ask someone where the bathroom is and have them think, "Gosh, this girl isn't even trying." I also don't want to ask someone where the loo is and have them think "Gosh, this girl is trying way too hard." I think I'm going to stick with calling it the bathroom unless someone tells me otherwise.
While I am mostly kidding when I ask the above question (I say mostly because it did originally pop into my head as a serious question), I thought I'd give you a little insight into the title of my blog.
